KAREN M. CHAMBERS Legal Assistant
Karen M. Chambers is Guthrie & Ellerman's Legal Assistant, where she works with the attorneys to ensure our clients have an excellent experience. Karen joined the firm in July of 2018, and quickly became an invaluable member of the team. Karen drafts documents, acts as attorney-client liaison, and exudes positivity in all she does.
Karen formerly worked in local school administration settings, and can put much of her previous experience to use, here at Guthrie & Ellerman, where working with our clients brings out her best self. Raised in Rescue, Karen met her husband while they were both attending Ponderosa High School; they still live locally with their 2 boys. Karen enjoys talk radio/podcasts, and the family chickens.
Kimberly began her legal career in 2007 as a family law attorney in Sacramento, transitioning to family law mediation, where she excelled within the often-challenging dynamics of fear and loss with stabilizing and meaningful resolutions. Kimberly began her own mediation practice in 2012 and later divided her time between mediation and estate planning, before shifting her focus solely on estate planning and related matters.
Kimberly was raised in Rochester, New York and went to college at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, graduating with honors. She received her J.D. degree, with honors, from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Kimberly, her husband Brian, and their three children, live in El Dorado County, where Kimberly is active in the community and with several local charitable organizations, including Women's Fund of El Dorado and Rotary Club of Cameron Park .
Kimberly and her family enjoy exploring local hiking trails and camping near the ocean. Kimberly recently ran her first 10k, hopefully not her last, and enjoys wine tasting in our wonderful local wineries.

C. HOWELL ELLERMANShareholder
A fourth-generation Californian, Howell graduated from Occidental College in 1981 and Loyola Law School in 1986. He served as General Counsel to Occidental College and Special Counsel to the Josephson Institute of Ethics. He is a 1996 graduate of the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University and is a professor of business and real estate.
Jana was raised in rural Texas, being one of a handful of girls at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, where her parents worked. She went to college at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, and graduated with honors. In 1979, she moved to Los Angeles, where she attended Loyola Law School and received her law degree, with honors. Jana began her law practice as a corporate and real estate lawyer in Los Angeles. Then in 1997, she and her husband, Howell, resettled in El Dorado County to raise their five children and pursue new opportunities. In El Dorado County, Jana joined the law practice of Guthrie & Guthrie, an established estate planning firm, and found her real calling in the legal profession through the work of that firm. She continues that practice today.
Jana has been actively involved in staying informed of new developments and working to improve the practice of Trusts and Estates law throughout the state. She is a member of the Trusts and Estates Executive Committee of the California Lawyers Association (TEXCOM), where she has served as a co-chair of the Education and the Legislation Subcommittees. She is a former chair of the El Dorado County Probate Round Table and a former member of the El Dorado County Elder Protection Unit. She has spoken throughout the state to attorneys, professional organizations, and individuals on topics including various estate planning issues, administration of trusts, dealing with incapacity and prevention of elder abuse.
Jana also believes in being involved in the community where she lives. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the El Dorado Community Foundation, and a long time member of the Rotary Club of Cameron Park.
EVELYN J. MOOTS Senior Paralegal
Evelyn J. Moots is the paralegal at Guthrie & Ellerman, where she began in 2008. Evelyn assists the attorneys in providing the best service possible. Whether drafting documents, providing valuable input and editing, researching legal issues or managing court documents, Evelyn plays an integral role in every client’s experience.
Evelyn began working as a legal assistant in 1998, has experienced family and personal injury law, and found her niche and “came home” to Trusts and Estates work. Evelyn attained her qualification as Paralegal under Business & Professions Code §6450 in 2017.
Born and raised in Placerville, Evelyn continues to live locally, now with her husband and 5 children. Evelyn is also known for her cat- and succulent-loving behaviors and can’t wait to be called “Nana”.
JANA ELLERMAN Managing Partner
Jana Ellerman is the Managing Partner at Guthrie & Ellerman. In her thirty-plus years as a lawyer, and her twenty years practicing in El Dorado County, she has worked to make her practice and her firm reflect her values - a devotion to family, to excellence in her profession and to serving the community. She balances experience and knowledge with a calming and caring personality to assist clients through the process of planning for their futures, protecting their families and dealing with incapacity and loss.
Jana is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law, a designation from the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Her practice includes Estate Planning, Trust Administration, Probate, Conservatorships, Special Needs Planning and Elder Law. Her clients include individuals, business owners, professional fiduciaries and public administrators.
KIMBERLY A. STRAND Associate Attorney
Kimberly joined the firm as an associate in 2014. She has grown her practice areas to include estate planning, probate, trust administration, mediation, and conservatorship matters. Kimberly represents a variety of clients: from families who have recently lost a loved one, to parents whose disabled child cannot manage their finances or personal needs, to individuals who want to plan for their future. She also represents private fiduciaries and public administrators in probates, trust administrations and conservatorship matters.
Kimberly enjoys working with families and individuals to plan for the future, as well as helping them navigate through transitions. Her practice is focused on the needs and goals of her clients, and she's dedicated to creating personalized and understandable estate plans for their specific situations. Kimberly also appreciates her ability to assist those looking for conservatorships, whether they have a special needs child about to turn 18, or an aging parent in need of care and financial management.
